i have a few questions for you.! I'm going to look at buying a car on Saturday, and they have told me that they cant warrant the mileage as it does not have it on the m.o.t certificate?what reasons can this be?? and the car don't have any old m.o.t's certs to prove the milage.:shifty: what and where is the quickest way to check the engine number to the v5 so to see if they match?? give me your honest opinions anyone, but hoping the testers can shed some light on this for me.thanks:cool
steve23002 and ronnie are both capable of doing MOT tests :thumbsup You can check mileage by checking on the MOT history on the DVLA website IIRC or is it the VOSA website-or they the same thing :confused
I didn't think an MOT test could be carried out if they couldn't get a mileage reading?
If they can then the MOT test history won't be any help for you trying to find out.
HPI checks will let you know of any mileage discrepancies IF it's part of the test; a lot of cheaper checks, like text check etc don't do a full check. Make sure the test you're paying for checks the mileage record.
Edit:
What's the car? how old is it? what's the apparent mileage? what does the seller sound like? evasive with details etc? is it a PX? is it a private sale? etc All these things help when determining the provinence of a car.
MOT's can be carried out without the mileage reading. Its not very common though. I would walk away, not worth the hassle if they are trying to hide something....:thumbsup
Ah, didn't know that
So it confirms any MOT history check won't help in this situation. Or at least I wouldn't rely on it as the only source of mileage info.
ok for now ive just messaged him asking for m.o.t test number and last 7 digi;s of vin... by rights he should give them at least, well its mot till june. and he must have v5 cause its in his name. what excuse could he possibly give not to text them back to me:cool
well he gave me the info needed to check out the car. its advertised at 108000 miles, now with that info i found out that last year the milage was recorded at 174,364 , now i thought he got it mixed up meening 180,000. but i spoke to him on the phone and asked couple of times if it was right ,he broke down the nimbers to 108,000 so he is definatly claiming 108,000. hmmm:confused, why would it say 108 on the dash then?
if you change the clocks the mileage on the clocks stay the same as the car the clocks came out of...Mileage can be read from the ECU with the right equipment IIRC.I think he has put in new clocks to make it look like it hasn't done that many miles
He has been sneaky about things right from the start-best to avoid no matter how cheap it is,unless its breaking only
