Thought it might be a good idea to post up your cars average m.p.g plus in town/motorway, accompanied by your driving style, transmission, petrol/diesel octane and also any mods that may affect the original m.p.g :thumbsup

We can then see how it differs from BMW's claimed mpg

Can you also remember to put in the E number of your model :thumbsup

Posts may be edited for size.

If you could delete your post once I've added it to the list, (will thank you once done) it would be a great help and would save me asking the mods to keep deleting for me! Cheers :thumbsup

This is a very interesting thread, makes me wonder about my figures!

54 E46 330cd Msport 130k miles (recently dead turbo!)

Town: 27 - 29mpg (dependant on traffic conditions)
Motroway: 38mpg (Sat between 75 - 80mph on 120mile round trip, Leeds to Hull and back) Also would like to point out my OBC pretty much matches my real world calculations.

This weekend my car will have a new turbo, de-flapped, egr cleaned, fresh oil / filter, new breather, and 2 new rear potenzas...maybe this will improve my MPG? I'd kill to get into the mid 40's on the motorway run as i do that journey 3 times per week!!

#43 ·
Check your engine running temps, don't relie on the gauge as they don't give a linear reading :thumbsdown (gauge will hit middle at 75C but that's not fully warmed up), you can get your OBC to display engine temp. Go to the e46 forum here, hints & tips thread & look for the part about accessing the hidden OBC functions. Engine temp should be about 88-92C.

Btw autos lose about 5MPG to the manuals (e46, don't know about other cars), which is yours?
