Good. The E60 was spoilt by that stupid paddle shift effort, a complete pain in the arse. The Mercedes AMG55 and 63 both have proper autos and are all the better for it. When you have 500 bhp, you don't need to fart about with flappy paddles.
I just think it's a shame that the M cars aren't manual as standard unless you request an auto or flappy paddle, surely if you're going down the M route, you're the type of driver who wants a manual? I'd love my 645 to be a manual
First it was the end of N/A engines as we know it (turbo :eek ) and now Auto only ? I know this isn't every BMW YET!
To be truthfull anything newer than an e46 or e39 say after 2006/7 are just not the same to me. Don't get me wrong though I like Lewy T's car and afcneal's on the outside but I've never seen the interior for reals. I also like smiley nialys 8 series.
I don't like the e90's at all I think the interiors are rubbish like a transit van plasticky.
Anyway.................. :thumbsup I think the next BMW I buy I will look after it like it was the last car on earth as I feel I will have it for some time to come, say 10+ years. (not that I don't look after the e36 mind, but I mean propperly looked after)
so they can make a manual that has 507bhp naturally aspirated that can be mapped for more yet they can't make a 550bhp M5 manual-seems a bit odd......possibly just rumours.Guess we have to wait and see
I heard that this is because of the massive 530lb of Torque (most probably due to it having two turbos). The same reason as why the 335d only comes with an auto box (Apparantely the manual box couldn't handle that much torque). And that "only" had 420lb of torque.
Agree, one thing that puts me off the M5 (like I was ever going to get one! especially after getting used to 320d's very good mpg :lol) was the SMG issues and the trouble a few had with hill starts etc. Auto is great for high hp cars, just look at the SLR Mclaren!
confused bmw surely can state that a man box cant take the power, what about lambo's etc or is this another cost effective solution because they make crap loads of cash out of these M powered cars, i think so
