Right so a swirl flap decided to visit cylinder 1 on the second day of my ownership of my e46 320d auto compaact (150bhp version).

I am researching putting in an M47R engine from a td4 or rover cdti. There is alot of conflicting information on the internet regarding it.

So far I have gathered that:
The M47R uses the same 1991cc block as the earlier 136bhp M47 320d lump.
BUT it also uses the common-rail fuel injection system found on the 150bhp M47N 320d lump.
Also the M47N engine uses twin balancer shafts which arent present on the M47R.

Now what I want to know is:

If I get a M47R engine (a quarter of the price of a M47N engine), and put my injectors, manifolds, turbo etc onto it, will it fit and work on my car? Im not bothered if i loose a bit of power, I just want to know if it will work, and someone must of tried it!!!!

Thanks,
Aidan
