BMW engines in my mind are one of best .But they do need to be looked after. The best advice i can give is not to over rev when cold get out of first gear straight away. This should be a golden rule for turbo diesel. The temp gauge has a blue square it should actualy say drive slow.
Same here, I never rev / work the engine hard until ist reached optimum temparature - and always give it chance to cool down by driving slowly after any 'enthusiastic use'.
Totally agree with the posters here. I know someone with an M reg 728i and he's done well over 140000 miles on it. It sounds so sweet still!!! He gives it at least one oil and filter change per year.
I do mine twice a year and if funds allow three :hihi
