Hi guys & gals, first of all, thanks a lot for letting me join your site.

I'm Andy or Big Tam to my mate's (please dont ask, it's confusing), i have just bought a used 320d touring, E91 on the 06 plate, it's done 85k mile's, it's the first BMW i have ever owned, i have joined this fantastic site to help me unlock the ultimate driving machine's true potential. I am a mechanical fitter to trade with no experience of working on motor's of this calibre, im more at home when i'm wielding a 28lb hammer at a JCB & the like's. None the less, i like tinkering with motor's of all shape's & size's & this one will undoubtedly get a touch of Mr "Edward Snap-On hands"!!

I have a few questions to ask, Since getting the beast around 6 weeks ago, i have noticed a few minor fault's. (i thrive on perfection).

Firstly, i seem to have very little control over the heater temperature, i seem to get warm heat from it from 16.5 deg to max, it blows "lukewarm" at 16 deg, when i put aircon on though, all is good, i believe this could be the heater control valve but im unsure & if so, can it be replaced easy enough & what is involved?

Secondly, i have an intermittent wheel bearing rumble, Mainly between speed's of 20 & 30mph, it would appear to be coming from the O/S/F but when i "jack" it up (all 4 wheels) & do the rumble test, i find no play or even a hint of noise, i believe (my favourite combination of word's) that the wheel bearing come's in a pre built hub that is effectively of the "Bolt off, bolt on" variety & that they are not sided. Can this be confirmed & do we know off a supplier apart from the main dealer where this can be purchased & discount's can be applied?? It's definitely coming from the front, so i am thinking, buy 1 & fit it to the side i think it is & if the fault is still there, fit the 1 i removed to the other side. (Fit & forget is a motto of mine)

Thirdly, When the engine is warm, there seems to be a slight top end engine rattle from it, it's not overly alarming but you know it's there, it sound's more like the hydraulic tappet's, the car has full main dealer service history so from reading through other thread's, i am led to believe that all BMW main dealers use 0w30 fully synthetic oil, (a bit thin for me) does anyone think it would be in my best interest to change the oil spec to say for example 5w40 fully synthetic or the likes, obviously i would keep to an LL04 spec, has anyone else had any similar issue's??

    Last but not least,

The car has the standard 16" alloys on it (yuck), im currently on the hunt for a set of 18" MV3 with decent runflat's, if anyone know's of someone selling a set, point them in my direction because i could be your man.

    All the best troops.

    Welcome mate

SlowTech is right, your best bet is to post up your issue in a thread or couple of threads in the E90/91 Technical Section as this section is just for introductions.
Far more people will see this thread and help you if you post up in the relevant section
