Hello from sunny Mauritius
I've just purchased a 525tds E39 some weeks ago and after some researches, decided to ask you guys for some help. After 3days of ownership, i noticed that when starting the car and move away, a puddle of diesel on the ground, after some inspections, it avers that it is leaking diesel from the injection pump, the top part. The leak from cold start is quiet important but then tends to diminish when the engine warms up but well its still leaking, resulting in poor fuel economy. Do you think that the seals can be replaced without much hassle? or need to change the pump itself, which cost a fortune here, even used one. Also the car start fine from cold, but when the engine is hot, it takes a while longer to start, once about nearly 40secs of cranking.. :(
Being a previous Peugeot owner, i have done lots of DIY on the 406 petrol and also the 406 HDI engines, being a newbie with BMW, i would rather ask for advice first and then try any DIY on the car, surrounding garage have no idea bout the engine but will be ready to rip the money (thinking oh, a bmw owner so lots of cash)
Apart this leak, i've always fancied the 525 and finally managed to get one and what a car to drive even sometimes a bit slow until the turbo kicks in, and after all those years, it still give that feeling of imperiousness. i really like it and dont regret the purchase even with the diesel leak.
Sorry for the lengthy post, looking forward to your precious advice, many thanks
