Hi I'm jack, new to the whole forum thing but thought it would be a good idea to get tips and how too's for my car, I drive a BMW 116i SE 09 white, recently put Dow bbs rs alloys on it stretched tyres, I'm looking for a range of things in the forum apart from, I'm afraid to saying tunning my car, getting insured on the car was hard enough and getting insured with it being slightly tunned would be almost impossible aha.

    Hi everyone.

I'm Rab from Berkshire and I'm nuts about BMWs.

    I currently have 3, a '97 318 Touring, a '00 325 saloon, and my pride and joy, a '04 X5 3.0D Sport.

Looking forward to reading some cool stuff on here, and hopefully posting a few gems along the way to.

    Cheers.

Hi all, I've been trawling all the forums trying to solve a long term issue with my 2005 325i touring which had a distinct lack of power below 2500rpm. The most obvious symptoms were a tendency to "bog" if you tried a slow rolling pull away in second which then needed loads more rpm and clutch feathering to get going and a lack of smooth acceleration in the lower end of the rev band. Two different techs looked at it and pronounced it OK, i.e., no error codes and almost perfect fuel trim/ tickover / sensor readings etc. Looking around on the forums, there seem to be at least 8 or 9 different items that can affect low end power so the potential for wasting a lot of time and money is high. Finally , a third garage seems to have solved the problem - a faulty coil. When they looked at it, it was black where the connection with the plug was obviously failing, but not failing badly enough to be obvious by misfiring or registering an error code. Looking back on it now, I did have a very occasional five cylinder start from cold, but it quickly cleared so I thought nothing of it and although the engine never felt as "sweet" as my old 320, I just put it down to differences between the two cars. The moral of the story is:
1.check the cheap and simple things first, do a smoke test, then check plugs and coils before you go around changing fuel pumps MAFs, DISAs, VANOS etc.
    2. things can fail without failing totally - and a soft or intermittent failure of one or more components can make for a difficult problem to solve. I hope I'm allowed to cross post here - the best advice I found was from the USA, here:

Cold weather misfires and CEL, common issues $50 fix! - E46Fanatics - lots of common sense - I just wanted to add my bit in case it helps anyone else
