    Hi all,
I'm new to the site and thought I would say hello. I currently drive a e36 323i coupe with the 2.5 engine. Well, I say currently drive... that's not stictly true... I would be driving it if only the head gasket hadn't failed on me last week! So to try and save me from spending £800 I didn't have on a repair I decided to strip it all down and do it myself. Ballsy considering this will be my first time, but hey, how hard can it be, right???? Wrong! I've never seen an engine like it! I know German engineering is the best, but it all does seem a little over engineered to me. To complete one task I must first do ten others! And this is my first head job in about 15 years, which probably isn't helping matters... and the last time I did one it was on a 4 cylinder Escort 1.3. I'm hoping I can call upon the more knowledgable among you for help as I need it... Do I really need the special tool from BMW to reallign the VANOS, or is there another way I wonder?
Anyway, hello everybody and thanks in advance for the help and advice you'll no doubt be giving me.
    Have a good day,
    BigLeo

    Hello

Thought I'd say hello just bought a 540i Individual in Sepia Violet, what a machine! Is my second BMW, I had owned an e36 325i coupe a few years back. Just sold a Lexus GS to get the 540i, wish I had done so sooner!

    Hello world

I'm not new to BMW but am new to researching (endlessly it would seem) the best long distance commuter. It seems the E60 or E61 (hope I got the model number right) is the kiddie.

I currently drive a 2007 XK which I love dearly but is not the right fuel type to be doing a 400 mile commute twice per week

Anyway, hello to you all, I'll be posting in the appropriate forum soon and hoping I'll get the help I need from real drivers of this apparently fabulous motor.

    Cheers, Bomber.
