Thinking about becoming an owner of either a 320d or 330d

I have a 40 miles each way commute and I currently travel this in an astra cdti150 that should be better on fuel than it is but that's another story
The main reason for coming out of the astra though is comfort I end up with aches and stiff knees when I get to my destination
I have also a disco 3 (also pinhead on disco3 forum) and suffer non of my aches when I use that but unfortunately 30-32 mpg that I acheave makes it too expensive so swmbo gets that for her short commute

My commute is 7 miles off peak round town about 23 miles motor way and rest at 60 mph a/b roads and about 4 roundabouts
The return takes in on peak round town
So lots of questions but where do I start

Mpg will an. e46 330d acheave 40mpg plus on my commute
Is there different stiffness of suspensions for differing models
Do winter tyres make them any good in snow (I run summer and winters on the d3 which is amazing but like I say loose that to swmbo)
Is there any major difference in insurance between 320 330
I have read much about swirl flaps vortec breathers and failed stats and I am happy to be able to address them all myself As I currently do all my own maintainance on both the disco and astra but is there other major things I need to look at
I have read about the 2.0 being quite flat and unrefined at low revs does this affect the 150bhp model or is it the previous model

Think I better leave it at yhat for now but can I say thanks in advance for any answers I get
    Andy

I would recommend a 320d, handles better than an Audi or vw, build quality is on par with Audi, engine is very refined and good on fuel.

    Cheers lee
The more I read the more I think 320 would be the way to go head says 320 heart says 330

If I found a new shape (e90?)in budget rather than the e46 that I have been looking at so far would there be any reason why not to go for the newer 1

Apparently My boss has just bought an e90 320d, will find out what he thinks.

If you can fit in an e90 why not a very tidy e46 m sport 320d.

I like the looks of the m sport model but have to ask is suspension stiff ?
I know at 35 I am not old but starting to be at a difficult age because I want comfort but still want sporty looks and performance
