    Afternoon,

Ive just put a deposit down on a '03 plate CI convertible - upgrading from a 99 e36.

Ive gone to get quotes to insure the car and its telling me the car is a manual when in fact the car is an auto! I looked at the history of the car it has never been written off but when I looked at the V5c I didnt check it said automatic . .

What are the odds that this car was once a manual and has been converted to an auto? is there any way I can find out without the VIN number? I will be straight on the phone to the dealer tomorrow but just wanted some advice for now.

    Cheers

I don't think anyone in their rite mind would convert to auto, put reg in to dvla or askmid that will give you an idea could just be an error on system

Almost certainly a DVLA error - as above, converting auto to manual is hard enough, but in reverse it'd be ridiculously difficult.

Putting my mind at ease slightly I have wondered why somebody would go to all that effort on a 318, if it is all legit just going to be a bit of a nightmare insuring it and sorting it out with the DVLA I guess!

When I rang up to insure my 328 coupe first time they told me it was a 4 door. They don't tend to use the DVLA system doing quotes. Just check the V5

if there is any way you can get the current MOT cert number and the VIN plate (could always call the seller and blag that you need it) there is a site you can go to that gives you all the MOT history to date.... It's what I did when we bought our Vert... shows the mileage ties up as it seemed suspiciously low... fair shout though, the MOT's showed it to be true...
