    Hello. I drive a 2004 e60 530i and made a bit of a mistake i think recently
in buying a round airbag from ebay. It was described as a genuine bmw
part for my car but it doesnt seem to have the right part number if i look at
catalogues like realoem. It is part 33676138204 J. It comes up at a turkish site.
    I am in debate with
the seller about whether it is a genuine BMW part. Im not sure. I have
also emailed the bmw brand protection team but no response yet. The airbag
also has a bit of a burnt smell so i am negotiating its return i think. Id
appreciate your views. Is there always only one genuine part number for any
given car? If i dont see this part number in the realoem catalog is it non genuine? Steve. Australia.

BMW regularly update their part nos. so a single part can have quite a few different ones over it's production lifetime. This usually happens if the item is modified in some way either mechanically, electronically or perhaps a styling change.

Obsolete nos.often disappear from Realoem despite being genuine.

I daily drive by the BMW Mini plant in Oxford........ lorries from all over Europe are delivering parts..... I guess it would not be unusual for a part to have Turkish connections

Thanks for replies so far. I have seen some parts on real oem that are listed as "ended". But this part number doesnt appear and i havent been able to confirm it with any other party other than the ebay seller.

The two other things that bother me about it are the slight burnt smell and a slight vertical crease down the front in middle either side of the badge.

Both of these things are listed as indicators of possible counterfeit in the current us givernment airbag warnings.

Does anyone have a genuine round airbag with slight burnt smell or slight vertical crease?

    Thanks
