Yep, the classic split in the manifold joint above the filter housing, I've got a feeling that as I have an '02 car I have the modified manifold, so should be ok...

Removed the undertray and gave the engine bay a good clean today, along with the rest of the car while I was at it.

The undertray has been through the wars a bit and the rear trailing edge had warn away, thankfully my dad has a plastic welding gun and filler rods so we spent a happy afternoon welding up the splits, cracks and holes. We also let in some new ABS sections to replace missing bits made up from some plastic taken from my Impreza bumper which had been cut out for various cooling ducts and vents. That went back on along with the repalcement O/S front corner undertray so the temp sensor is now properly mounted too.

I've taken the car for a short spin to check for leaks before setting off on the 70 miles back home in the next half hour, hopefully all will be well!

250 miles on since I changed the gaskets and all seems well which is a relief

I also relented on the satnav and bought a Mk4 DVD unit along with an 06 European map disc and a Navman UK/Eire disc with fixed speed camera locations

Hope to be fitting the towbar in the next few days as it's going to be needed this week to move Imprezas around

Good to hear it's fixed , It's always a relief when you aren't sure whether you've found the actual fault or not

Cheers Ronnie, fingers crossed it'll all be plain sailing from here...of course I may get the car on a Rolling Road next week while we're (hopefully) mapping/running in the Impreza and there may even be an accidental connecting of a lap top

Well Pat the Map's own '99 530D SE on a cool 216k miles is running around 240 brake and 480lbft...but he has fitted a custom exhaust centre...sounds cracking, but only if you don't mind the drone on cruise

I do like to make life difficult for myself

I started fitting the second hand Westfalia towbar kit, that I bought nigh on a month ago, today. Getting the bumper off was relatively painless, as was removing the bumper dampers, however when I offered up the mounting brackets I discovered a slight problem...they didn't line up with the chassis mounting holes...bugger...there is a difference between the saloon and touring kits

Still I've made some adapter brackets up and with a bit of fettling it'll fit.

Not looking forward to the wiring though, I do have a bypass relay kit, but I'd prefer plug and play
