Hi I am a recent returnee (is that a word?) to the world of BMW. Although I have been driving my wife's e46 325ci convertible on and off, it's be a while since I have one that I drive on a regular basis. The last one was an e36 M3 Coupe.
Due to a new baby, I was in the market for a 4 door car and I recently picked up a 55 plate 535d M Sport. Technically it is for my wife & baby, but she has been unable to get me out it for the last couple of weeks. I've got to say, I love driving this thing. The way the twin turbo delivers it's power makes for such a rewarding drive, and puts a smile on the face. It is definitely a license-loser though, as you can find yourself flying along all too quickly without realising!
One thing I have noticed is since my e36 days is the explosion of versions of i-drive based bmw's. LCI, CCC, 6NF, 6FL, Pre face lift, post facelift, Media Pack, Media Pack with TV Tuner etc etc... how on earth does someone buying a pre-owned BMW establish exactly what they have? :-)
From what I can tell I have the following
- A Carbon-Black (surely they mean is metallic dark blue?) M Sport E60 with Black Leather seats and 18" Run-flat tyres
- With the Media Pack (BT Telephone, Sat Nav, MP3 Headset + DVD drive, + 6 cd changer, No TV)
- i-Drive (CCC?)
I thought that would be enough to know about the car, but it seems that that is only the start!
I was considering the following, adding ipod connectivity & TV, and that is where it really got interesting... and when I felt like a noob more that ever :-)
If anyone can direct me to an overall oracle of simple but accurate knowledge for noobs, I would be most grateful, but in the mean time, I am just enjoying driving the car.
