    I don't think you'd really buy a car thats 4 or 5 years older just because of the swirl flap issue, as you say you'd remove them
    and neutralise the threat yourself.

    Problem, as I see it anyway, is masses of E46 320d's were sold to business users with the promise of ridiculous oil 20k service intervals
    coupled with relevant friendly government co.car taxing.

    Old oil lubricating the turbo and a clogged foam oil separator building up pressure on the turbo seals lead to premature turbo
    failure in the pre 09/2003 models, regular oil and filter changes and fitting the vortex oil separator will help keep the turbo
    and engine in top condition.

    Sounds good in theory lol

    Yup, ok - maybe I'm just being paranoid!

    A bit more reading has got me checking out the 330D too... looks like there's almost no downside over the 320D! In fact I'm thinking about everything other than the I4 petrols that which I had been considering at the beginning of the day.
