    Hello to everyone . . . .
    I'm new to BMW's . . .
I've just bought a 1996 E36 328i se saloon that has been stood since 08,
140.000 miles on her but full service history (till 136.000, BMW till 106.000),
It's nice and clean inside, pretty good on the outside . . . looks like it's been treated well, and I really like it
BUT . . . . it has a tapping noise from the top end , goes away soon as the revs are lifted slightly (or gets drowned out) but certainly doesn't get any louder.
Anyway going to change the oil and filter and see how goes . . .
    Expect to hear more from me . . . . lol. . .

as regard to the tapping noise it could the timing chain they are good for about 160k but can go sooner.
then again it may not be
a second opinion is needed and im sure you'll get it pop it in the tec e30/e36 section you'll get the answer you want in there
There's an alternative. There's always a third way, and it's not a combination of the other two ways. It's a different way

I see you've made you're decision now lets see you enforce it.

Welcome mate. Change the tensioner, ten minute job about £30 from ecp's or gsf. Might be your problem!

Put a post in the tech section about your rattle, you'll get more answers.

    Cheers lads . . . I'll look into that . . . . .
Had a little listen round with a stethoscope and it was quiet round the cam chain area . . .
    It's not so much a rattle as a tapping like a lifter or a maybe a little end . . .
Once I get it t&t I'll take it round a few places and get some second opinions as I like it and would really like to keep it. . . . .
