looks like air pump and air hose to me. this would set you down whole 2 quid for bit of hose and 2 clamps from some car shop (not halfrauds). you could be surprised how much difference that could do.

Thanks for the replies, I don't mind spending any money, just wanted to check before I replace it that it wasn't supplying oil or water.
Jackmci had it from new in 1999, as soon as the first shots appeared in magazines, fell in love with the design, still love driving it. never liked the look of the e90, and the f30 seems abit big.YOur user name are you something to do with Jacksons ??

Nah I'm nothing to do with Jacksons mate, first name is Jack that's all
Get some pictures of your car up, or a project thread... I'll see if I recognise it.
I wouldn't worry too much about that hose, looks like crankcase breather, but its a small picture so difficult to tell.
Pop to interseals at lowlands, they should be able to cut you a replacement size piece of hose for a couple of quid.

Thanks Jackmci, i`l ltry that, pic of my car on Crown pier.
Everybody said green for a car would be unlucky, the were right, nearly everypanel has a ding from "other people ". If i did get a new car i would keep this as its worth far more to me than the £1500 or sio i could get for it.

I was on my iPhone, so not particularly big on the screen...
Enlarged it now on the iPad, looks like its the vacuum hose to the exhaust manifold or egr valve, should be fairly easy to replace mate.
Nice looking car, I'll keep my eye out for you...
I'm mainly on BMW Forums UK if you want to have a look on there...
