    Hi people newbie here ,
Looking at buying a 2005 e46 330d sport with the auto box , the car has a good spec 105,000 on the clock full service history , swirl flaps removed vortex breather , only thing I'm put off by is the horror storeys on the net about the gear box failing , is there any tell tail signs to look out for with the gearbox ? And any other general things I should look out for ?
Any information or tips will be much appreciated thanks

as quoted, i was told that if the gearbox had never been changed or reconditioned, prepare a budget for it as it will be not if but when it goes, and expect to pat between £1300 and £2000 for the privilegemwher abouts in newcastle, im from sunny newbiggin by the sea

People will chat the most rubbish all my friends drive bmw's auto's apart from me that 8 bmw's 7 auto and 1 manual of course i will say get manual as thats what i would chooses but none of my friends have had any problems in the last 10 years so its rubbish about horror stories if you believe a few horror stories out of thousands that have left the production line then bmw would have serious sales problems selling their auto cars when the evidence would suggest auto sales are higher as they are more auto's available than manuals to buy.

Get an auto it will be boring, sedative, have less throttle response, harder to drive in snow/ice and use slightly higher mpg to a manual these would be valid reasons not to buy not a few horrow stories out of thousands of perfectly fine auto bmw's get the gearbox oil changed and gearbox filter changed this is normally overlooked and where problems can start aswell as drivers who thrash the autobox

If you do a parchute jump your chute might not open and you might die doesnt stop people doing them if you lived life like that listenening to every possie bad thing in life that could happen you would step outside the front door...lol...good job 90% of bmw owners are probably not on forums otherwise auto bmw's wouldnt sell people will just repeat crap from the internet does anyone actually personaly know of anyone needing their auto box refurbing or replacing if so it probably had high 160k+ miles anyway...dont believe the hype

Test drive both buy the one you prefer
