    Hi all,

Im new to the BMW scene and actually havent even got one yet! Thats why im here though. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice.

So im looking for a more reliable and hopefully more economical car to replace my 1.4 vw polo. My drive to and from work is a 134 mile round trip every day. At the moment this is costing me a fortune!! Its mostly along the m4 between bristol and swindon, then onto the 50mph a420 so no slow a or b roads. Im looking for a bmw that will be reliable, good mpg and not too expensive to insure (not bothered about speed, cruise at 70mph anyway!). Ive been looking at E36 318 tourers, is this the right sort of idea? I cant seem to find anymore E36's that are diesel! Could someone give me any ideas? (im looking at E36's because they seem to fall into my price range!)

Thanks in advance and i look forward to properly joining the BMW community!

Thanks for the advice afcneil. Im looking for something sub £1000 really. I am handy with the spanners so doesnt have to be anything that is perfect out the box, as i can fix most things.

Am i right in thinking there is no cambelt on the E36s? What sort of thing should i be looking out for to go wrong on them at this age?

I think the polo probably does around 35mpg at the moment, with it only being a 1.4 it is always over 3000rpm on the motorway and the engine is quite high mileage already.

I got a 325i E36 saloon and I get 22 mpg possibly 24 on a motorway but I gotta get it remapped but I think you will be hard pushed to find something with the mpg and the budget you got I wouldn't bother looking at BMW's if that's what you want as said having a BMW is about owning 1
