    Hi all,

I'm Michael, new to BMW's but fairly proficient in vehicle maintenance/rebuilds.

I'm looking to pick up an E36 vert as a daily driver but the real reason is for a charity rally to Rome in June. Trying to get some buying advice, I know I don't want an auto, regardless of engine size! As for the engine this is my main hang up, I'm put off the 318 due to it missing two pots however there are a number of these around fairly cheap. I'm looking for a 323 but does anyone have any useful comments to help decide? Additionally I've read numerous posts about auto roofs - are they that problematic or should I just opt for a manual roof?

Some other considerations - I will likely cover 15k miles/year and insurance isn't an issue.

Moderators - feel free to relocate this post as you deem necessary, I couldn't find a vert specific forum.

    MJ

Why settle for E36 with dodgy plastic rear window poss leakey roof etc when the e46's are reasonably priced and far more solid and refined better chasis too

Good luck with the charity rally sounds like great idea get a thread posted up might be able to gather a convoy

It's a push trying to find an E36 for around the £500 - £1k budget yet alone an E46! The trip already has a few BMW's going - check out rust2rome on Facebook or google.
