    Hiii,

Iv just bought my 3rd car, a 318 1999 plate saloon... I'm 19 so if i went newer the insurance was a bit of an ass kick, still an upgrade from the corsa in power wise the car I have bought is off of a dads friend (dads a mechanic) so he knows the car is in perfect order... In mint condition so I'm happy with it..

Just wondering what mods get done on these cars.. I want to get new wheels as don't really like these ones, thinking something on the lines of splitters, lights.. but to tell the truth i don't have a clue about BM's mods wise so any help would be really appreciated..

    Thanks

    Chris

    Welcome! I'm also 19 years old! And I'll give you an insight as we are similar ages (well, the same age actually lol). Here are some of my own rules about BMWs;

    1) Outrageous bodykits like the ones that are found on Corsa, Saxo, Pugs (what we call chav box) are a NO NO on BMWs.
    2) If you want to modify it, modify it tastefully. This means non of those cheap alloys found in Halfrauds, lexus rear lights, touring/racing car rear spoilers or over the top massive exhausts that you can drive into.
    3) Most things that you'll have to fix will probably be DIY, as garages and other car shop will tend to think you have lots of money by owning a BMW. But don't worry, there are a lot of help on the internet and here.
    4) If you want your car to look aggressive, M3 bumpers and Alpina bumpers or any other BMW sports bumpers is the way forward.
    5) For alloys, BBS split rims are good and a lot of BMW owners have them (I current want some). They remove the BBS badge and replace it with a BMW one so it looks standard, also you can put any sports BMW wheels (M-power wheels, alpina wheels etc)
    6) Angel lights are good.
    7) Some people paint their kidney grilles.
    8) People put M3 or LED rear lights.
    9) Most other road users will automatically think you're a twat and probably won't let you out of side roads or join lanes on the motorway. Do not let this get to you. Just think to yourself that you are driving a great car.
    10) Kids in modified shopping trolleys (Saxo, Fiesta, Pug) will want to race you at the lights or on motorways, especially when your car looks standard, has 318 written at the back and you look young. Ignore them, it's not worth it.
    11) Police will probably follow you, but not for a long. (Drug dealer look LOL. Although I think they have moved to Audi along with the ex bad BMW drivers)
    12) With chav boxes and modified shopping trolleys, you have to show that your car is fast by adding bodykits and other things I've stated above, because people know they are slow, but for BMWs you don't have to do that rubbish as people already know that BMWs are fast great cars.
    13) Some BMW owners upgrade their interior to a leather one.

Hope you will enjoy owning a BMW. I certainly am, especially at my age! While other people our age have to deal with FWD nonsense, we have RWD sense!

Wicked, thanks very much mate for the welcome and the insight.. don't worry I'm not a lad that will come on here trying to create a chav mobil, thats why I moved away from the corsa and onto a BM as they are subtle but very smart! just want to do that mods that catch a couple of eyes but only because of 'looks such a clean car'..

Was looking to changing my wheels before i got BBS to Mv1's.. recommend?

Was thinking about changing bumpers also but will all come in time i guess

    Thanks again!

    Nice one!
Which BBS wheels do you have mind me asking? MV1's are also good looking especially on the e46. But I think I'd prefer these BMW M-sport wheels. BMW 1 3 Series E36 E46 E90 E92 Z3 Z4 Winter Wheels 225 40 18 Snow Tyres | eBay

    How's your BMW treating you?

Sorry for late replays, not been able to get on the forum recently :/ Not exactly sure on what bbs yet as I wouldn't really want reps and they are really expensive lol! But yeah looked at them M-Sports too, they are nice, just the case of finding a decent set..

Love my BMW at the moment really do, drinks a lot compared to my old corsa, but absolutely love it! Weighs a lot so not as nippy, but top end speed is a lot better! but yeah loving it thank you!
