Hi all, I'm new to the site, but it's already proved useful in sorting my cooling problems with my e28. I can't help noticing a distinct lack of older stuff on this site, what I call "proper BMWs" (a friend had a modern-ish e36 325i & build quality, spec & electrics were shockingly bad). I've always wanted a more classic one & was looking for an e30 when the e28 turned up. It's a 1985 525e, in zinnober red & it only cost me £450. Bodywork is very good for a 24yr old car & it's mechanically sound too, only a few problems with the cooling to sort (new rad on the way) & job should be a good 'un. I promise to get some pics up soon (she does just need to find the lead for my camera. I wonder how many of these modern ones will still be running well after 24 years.

Lovely car you have there and I agree, it's a shame we don't have a few more members with such cars

To be fair, my mate's e36 was an early one, I was surprised to find it didn't have any electric windows, no sun roof or leather & interior trim wasn't lasting well for it's age. Main trouble was something major with electrics, it would occasionally cut out, & I mean everything, dash, engine, the lot! The dealer he got it from was a bit of a crook to say the least. Think it was a 1991 model, they probably had teething troubles with them, he chopped in a lovely 1985 e30 325i (mint, with rebuilt top end) for it.
But I think my main problem is just with modern cars in general, I don't like the way they drive, too soft & light on the controls.
