    Hi All,

I'm new here, so hello. Also new to BMW's but i'm aquiring an 1997 geniune AC Scnitzer BMW 328i SE on sunday. Has the type 2 bodykit including mirrors, spoiler etc. genuine wheels and exhaust.

I needed something with 4 doors, so i took it in px for my skyline gts-t.

I have usuall only had jap sports cars (2 supras, 4 mr2's, celicas, skylines, scoobies - the list goes on!)

First question is - can i read the map and other info off of the ECU? Is it just an ODBII interface? and is there free software available to read/write maps? I have an ODBII cable from a previous car.

I'll get some pics up later./

    Cheers,

    Paul.

    Hi Paul and welcome.

In short, no, its not possible to easily read and write maps on your 328 without special (expensive hardware) because its OBD2.

If it was a 95 car and was OBD1 you could remove the eprom and read it...but I think you can still remove the eprom and read it on your new car, though Im not 100% as Ive only used byteshooter type tools for OBD2 stuff.

BMW ECU tuning is very unshared, and as such there are no free tools...you would be best paying a quality tuner for a remap, about £250 ish iirc

There are much better things you can do for your new car for power anyway.

Like fit a 325i inlet manifold for one! (328 one is very restrictive due to new emission regs during years of manufacture)
Thet gains as much or more than a remap I believe...

    Cheers guys, some good advice

the car may have stuff done to it already, but were unsure until i can have a good look.

    It's kept up with a 300bhp skyline gts-t, so i'd imagine it's running a bit more than 197bhp!

I'll find a pic and post it up

    Paul.
