    hey guys,
Just bought a 318ti Compact on an X plate off my old man as he's just got a brand new 330, it's got 60k on it A/C, FBMWSH, traction control, E/W, Cat 1 alarm and an Alpine Ipod head unit in it. Got it for £1500. Is that a good price? It's my first BMW and was just wondering if there's anything I should look out for or any common faults on them? Its drive's faultlessly and has 10 months tax and MOT. 2 owners from new. Also is it the chain driven engine? Thanks in advance
    Matt

    HI Matt

I will have to double check about the 318ti but Im pretty sure it has a timing chain instead of a belt seen on most other makes.

That sounds like a more than fair price, especially as you know its history and that its been looked after..

THeres no common faults Im aware of on this model.
Its mainly the diesel engined BMWs that have multiple issues!! (E46 320d, 330d etc)

You've done good at £1500 for a MY 98/99 318ti with 60k. If it's been your dads motor you should know what's been done and how it's been looked after.

All 3 series of that age have certain parts that wear out but nothing major to worry about.........just keep an eye on here for posts on various things and tell tale signs of problems, so you know what to look out for
