Firstly would like to say "Hello" to all members
just joined this morning, my names Neil im from Essex and last week raided the bank and cashed in for a BMW 645ci - 2004 model-convertible ......... so far so good with the car, its a big change from the old merc, im just getting used to the idrive and the general drive of the car as had a Mercedes E240 before

I have taken out warranty, as per the warranty requirements the car should have full service history (it has) also says the car should have the belts replaced at the scheduled service intervals as per manufacture

Was wondering "Belts" would probably mean "timing belt" ........ just wanted to know having lifted the bonnent and looked, can see a single long belt going around all the different pulleys take it as thats what they mean

Question: does anyone know when it should be replaced?

the service book does not list any belts apart from oil, spark plugs, micro filter etc and with the supplied Bills/Invoices from the previous owners there is nothing to show any belts have been replaced .............

Question: is it the timing belt which if snapped would cause the BIG engine damage that everyone talks about? when I googled for information it come back that this car has a Chain not a belt? tho cant see any chain just the traditional looking belt unless there is another "chain" belt

One last thing noticed the engine sort of misses a beat, a very slight miss-fire when hot/normal temp, the idel pulses down for a split sec every now and then.......... I will get the car serviced soon for peace of mind ...........

    any replies would be welcomed

    Thanks alot

    Morning and Welcome Neil
Your car runs timing chains, so no belts to change there, so they must mean axiliary belts, but these should be check during a service, hope this helps

Hi ok, thank you for that, I been searching on the forums since morning and i will just get the black coloured long belt xchanged seems to be called the "serpentine belt" ....... as for the engine idle its NOT bad, but again via reading the forums, its seems to be a common thing with this engine ........ will get it all serviced soon for peace of mind, thanks
