I Turn 22 at the end of this month and have been thinking it's time for a change, there's no rush to sell the current car (MG ZR) as I do like it still, just want something more standard but still has the 'wow' factor. Also I want a convertible but will have a hard-top for it in the winter.

My budget for the new car is £9000 maximum, not including insurance.

For a long time I thought that a Honda S2000 was the one for me, just have been waiting for the insurance price to fall to below £1500. Someone at work suggested what about a BMW Z4 this week and after having a good look it's a valid suggestion...

    Parkers reviews:

    BMW Z4 Roadster 2.5i - http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/...px?deriv=25015
(Also may consider the 2.0i engine)

    Honda S2000 - http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/...px?deriv=17185

Advantages for the Z4: Cheaper Insurance, More MPG, Cheaper Tax, More useable as an every-day car, 2.5 litre 6cylinder engine.

Advantages for the S2000: Slightly better performance figures, has been on my wish list since I learnt to drive.

Both cars look equaly stunning in my opinion, and most importantly a bloke could pull off driving one. Not like a 'hairdresser' car.

    As for availability...

BMW Z4 2.5i £8,5000 - Would possibly be looking for something a little newer, 2005/06 perhaps with similar mileage.

Basically what i'm looking for is people opinions on the Z4 or do you think I should hold out and get the S2000? Hoping for someone who has driven or owned both to give some non-biased advice.

    Jason.

    Welcome to the forum Jason

I would go for the BMW, but that's because like rumple, I prefer BMW. It's all down to what you want though.

Ideally you need to test drive both, and then that should help make your mind up.

Welcome mate, so long as you buy well - I.E. Be able to sell for as much as you bought within a few months then go for one first, then if it doesn't do it for you then switch to the other!

Of course I would go for the bimmer first though.

I had a mate who had an S2000 and it was a great car but he got rid after 3 months because it just was just too hard a ride.

He is 30 though and so you may want that out of a car although I suspect the z4 will give you a bit of both worlds...

    Thnx for the replies!

Yes, the route now is to hopefully test drive both and make a decision. My insurance runs out November 18th on the MG and that will leave me with 4 years NCB all being well.
