    hi all,

currently own a Mk3 Golf VR6 and looking to purchase a new car in the early part of next year just after i get married! Was originally looking at getting a 330d or 530d tourer and have about £8k to spend. turns out i can get alot of car for that money and found several 730d E65/E66 well within that price with less than 100k miles on the clock. Is this is good buy and what problems can i expect or need to look out for?

I would say the only issue is with the cost of repairs as there is more to go wrong on a 7 than with a 3 or a 5. If you are going to do some DIY with regards to reapairs I am sure you will have a great time with any of those cars.

    many thanks for the response.

i am fairly handy with working on cars so was looking to hopefully keep on top of things myself, just a bit worried about how controlling the electrics are for most of the car..........

If you can do a few things yourself then you should be fine. I am at university and I have been running my E46 325ci no problem. Depends on how the previous owner looked after it. You might get a good response in the 7 series section about potential faults on that model.

    Best of luck.
