    Hi all just joined up.

Basically i change my cars every 6 months, a keen hobby of mine, im great with the mechanical side and detailing but i have always owned Fords mainly
throughout my years of driving, im 26 years old at present.

Ive always had a soft spot for the 2000 onwards BMW 3 series 2 door coupes, they are one of if only the BMWs i like the look of, but i have zero knowledge on BMWs, i have no idea on engine size variants, or what all these E30, E36 , E42 etc etc means either !

Basically im looking for something like this -

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-320-Ci...item19cb1c2555

But obviously a manual, i dont want a automatic.

Can anyone give me any pointers on these 2 door couples of this series/shape ? What to look out for? Engine sizes? What engine options they came with? good points, bad points etc?

Ive been told that if im going to buy a prestige car such as a BMW its wise to buy one with full service history as when things go wrong it can or is expensive?

Im not really fussed on performance, but would like to know really the best all round engine size.

    Thanks

Welcome! Generally, engine size equal to or larger than 2.0litres have 6 cylinders. E30, E36, E46 etc are the model number. E46 is the one you're looking for. E36 was the one produced before the E46 model. There were 2 phases for the E46. Post facelift came in 2002, and you can tell the difference by the headlights. And some had LED rear lights (I think these were available on "sport" models though. Full service is important. It shows the car has been looked after. When you bring a BMW into a garage (especially a newish one), they think you have money to throw away. So don't neglect anything!
    Have fun!

Which would be the best engine size to go for in a coupe 2 door? there is a few 51 reg ones on there and a couple of 02 reg priced between 2 - 3 grand in silver, i think silver is a boring colour but it really suits BM's

Hi and welcome along to Bimmerforums UK, it's good to have you on board.

My choice would be a 330i petrol.

i would say go for the 3.0ltr petrol and also look for the sport model with the better spec wheels and bumpers if possible
