    Hello!

I have just bought my first BMW. It is a 1998 323ti (compact). I was not really looking for a BMW at the time but my local garage was selling this one on behalf of the widow of the then owner. The car was in such superb condition, and with only 65,000 Kilometres ( about 40,000 miles), I just fell for it. It also has a complete BMW dealer service history.
I do not seem to to find much (anything?) on the forum about this model. Plenty on the 318ti though. Is this because it was not exported to certain countries?
There are quite a few around in France though.
Being new to BMW I am sure that I shall soon be boring the socks of forum members with idiot questions during the coming weeks.

    Best wishes

    Duncan

Welcome. Your English is very good, or were you born in England?!

As for the compact, I haven't really seen many larger engines in the compact until the later E46's. I must admit that the idea of a big 6 pot in a compact sounds like fun to me!

Hi Batabas, the 323i is quite a rare beast and you are right in saying it was only available in some countries, they were produced from the start of 1997 through to late 2000(august) and were only available in Europe.

Don't worry about idiot questions, we get them every day .

Hi Batabas, welcome to the forum

There's no such thing as idiot questions, my opinion is if you don't ask you won't know and guaranteed someone else would want to know the answer too

I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay here

Here in the UK I have only seen 2 BMW compacts with the 2.5 engine (325ti). I can recall seeing and E46 style, 323ti in gold several weeks back.

Can't recall seeing a 323ti, but thats not to say there were not available. I think due to the style of the car and for the purpose that many people who bought it, the 318ti was the most popular with those eanting extra power opting for the 325ti.

Thank you for the welcome DSK.

Found you tyre information very useful. I also have a bike. Not quite in the same class as yours but it gives me a lot of fun. It is a Honda NSR/R 125 1999 (2 stroke). It is completely unrestricted and I reckon puts out nearly 30 BHP. This in a bike which weighs only about 110 Kilos, gives it quite good acceleration. Have got just under 100 MPH on it on the Auto route, flat on the Tank!! Keeps me young at heart !!!
