    Afternoon all

My name is Richard and I have decided that I want to enjoy driving more - so I have settled on buying a BMW.

I need a motor that I will have for a few years and I don't want to be bored/unhappy with it too quick. Now here's the thing, I'm probably going to need a bit of advice on what to look at. Initially I had my heart set on an E46 330CI but in all honesty I think that will still be out of my price range. Still, if I were to find one...

I'm going to have a maximum of 5.5k to spend, my requirements are:
    - Petrol
    - Manual
    - Coupe > Touring > Saloon (Order of preference)
    - 2001 or Newer (To avoid rear subframe issues)
    - Ideally 325i (Would a 320 or 318 be dissapointing?)

I've noticed a fair few BMW's are high milage, is this something that should worry me? My Saab is high milage and it's just not a nice drive any more (Plus the turbo and gearbox are on the way out).

Am I being realistic? Any suggestions welcome...

    Thanks for reading
    Rich

    HI and welcome Rich

    Nice first post

a 330 i is a great choice and not unrealistic for that money IMO. Though you will have to be patient, and FAST when a good one does show up

This one has now sold but shows what can be had for sub £5k

    http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1207209.htm

a 325i is also a good choice, but price wise wont save you much if anything if your criteria are the same (age /manual etc)

Regarding mileage, if the car has been serviced and looked after, any mileage around 100k should still drive like new...

subframe issues were resolved on cars built after mar 2000 so dont rule them out, for what its worth i sold my 330CI with 93k on the clock for a lot less than 5.5k so they are out there. If you can afford it then the 330 is the way to go, it has similar economy to the other 6 cylinder BMW's and costs the same to service
