    Welcome to the forum

Sorry to hear your first post is sharing bad news

Just as well you were in a 5 series though

There doesn't appear to BE a great deal of damage but the panels that have been crumpled aren't cheap.

What is the value of the car if you don't mind me asking?

Sorry to hear and see this, however it is always amazing how intacted the BMW stays in a rear end smash like this. I was involved in a rear end smash in my Dads E46 M3. Sat in traffic, brake lights on and whack from behind at 40mph and the M3 looked like it had hardly been touched however there was a slight crease inside the well in the boot.

The total cost of that repair was £2700 from a BMW Bodyshop under the insurance. The labour cost the most, it needed a respray to the boot lid, new rear bumper, exhaust system, parking sensors, the crease removed from the well and as its a convertible they replaced the reinforcement shocks under the bumper.

I would say from the looks of yours it probably going to be around the 4/5k mark as the underside looks rather bad.

Man, that's a big bummer. I'm in a similar position. Got my 330d 3 weeks ago, got walloped from behind this morning by a huge mo'fo lorry. Got out expecting a total mess, only to find mine's almost the same as yours in terms of damage - his lorry was much worse off, ha ha..
Anyways, as I just posted another thread, if you haven't already, you might want to do what I'm doing which is to get your local BMW dealer to put you onto Accident Exchange. Seems they'll sort it all out as well as putting you in another M5 while yours is being fixed. Nice...

Damn that is expensive hopefully it all goes smoothly because i couldn't afford to repair that at the moment, i only paid 3.5k for the car!! On another note the engine management light has come on still drives like it should though maybe just needs resetting will ask the garage to run tests first,, and just noticed on the curve of the exhaust there is a big crease so that will probably need replacing and am guessing they are expensive.?
The place where the work is getting done is local with people i know and they also specialise in custom stainless exhausts, might be worth looking into getting a little custom twin exit jobby....

theres a couple of grands worth of damage there at least. His insurance is going to hurt after that. Airbags (depending on model) are usually set to go off at anything around 15 mph and over. Unless you are in a very old car when kicking the bumper hard is all it takes to set them off.

As funny videos go though, just to cheer you up
