    Hello all,

I currently drive a 1971 Triumph 2000, which I cannot fault. It is endlessly reliable and always starts.

however. I feel that using her everyday as i am will eventually kill the poor thing. So, I am seriously considering a BMW E28 5 series, preferably a 520i for reasons i will explain.

As I am 18, insurance is an issue. An E28 will be eligible for classic insurance, and I am hoping to put it on a policy with the Triumph, and I will look into this. I nearly have a years NCB having passed my test pretty swiftly after turning 17. My current insurer has a capacity limit of 2 litres for under 21's, hence a 520i, and I love the 'shark nose' front of the E28, so definately keen to get one.

Unfortunately as is the way with these things I need to save for it first, so cant buy one just yet, as much as i would love to!

Essentially, as you are BMW experts, I was wondering if you could tell me what to look out for, and general prices of these fine cars. As much as i would love a red BMW M535i, I cannot stretch to one, so definately looking at a 520i/525i (if i can find an insurer without a capacity limit)

    faithfully,
    Alex

Well, I was going to wait until turning 21 and get a 325 tds, but that's 3 more year's wear and tear on the Triumph, and i thought, i love the sharknose beemers, and they are old enough to qualify for classic car insurance, and I do love hustling a rather large saloon that everyone expects to be slow. Out of interest, was the 524 td ever offered in the UK market?

slowtech, I'm guessing, and hoping, that you mean 'head screwed on' re classic car insurance, rather than head screwed, although all us classic car owners have screwy heads anyway! Tis a requirement to own one haha! thank you for the warm welcome, my car insurance is due for renewal in December, so i will obtain a quote to put an E28 on there, hopefully it will be 3 figures, the Triumph being around £800 p/a
