Just a quick hello. I have always been an VAG owner (and still am), but need a new bigger car, so decided to follow my old man and go to BMW. He has a E86 Z4 3.0si and an E70 X5 40d

    Im looking for a 2005/6 535d M sport saloon.

Any key points to look out for? I have heard that the earlier 272PS versions suffer with gearbox/propshaft failures?

Hello and welcome to the forums

Your pre purchase questions would be better posted in a specific thread in the General BMW Discussions section of the forums
and you could also try a dedicated 'search' in the BMW 5 Series Forum - Technical Talk on the BMW E39, E60, E61, F10 and F07 GT.

Well, i bought one. I have changed my wish list as a decent 535d in grey with 19's was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. There are plenty for sale, but I looked at a few and they were rubbish. I also missed out on a few, probably because they were good ones.

I ended up buying a one owner from demo, '56 530D m sport with 66k and full dealer history (cant win them all!). It has most of the options i wanted apart from privacy glass so no major problem. I decided as this is going to be my everyday family car, I didnt need to go all out and get the 535D as I have my RS4 for driving fast.

Picked it up last night and it drove back beautifully. Still feels super tight compared to one i drove with 95k miles on the clock. Got it in my workshop today and had a good look over it and it looks spot on. Small leakage from swirl flaps, but no major issue. Also treated it to a generic remap until the de-dpf pipe turns up and then it will be off for a custom tune.

Will bash some pics up at some point, but day 1 of owning a beemer has been fun. Wonder how long i can make the 275's wear out?!

All the cars lined up after being washed.

RS4 and 530d are both mine, however the X5 40d is my dads.
