My name's Tom and I'm from Bath. I've just moved over yet again from the VW side of life and I've had 3 E30's and an E36 previously and have just picked up another one.
Firstly, this BMW game seems a lot more highly strung than the Dub scene and forums, so I hope my English is up to standard for the grammar Nazis and my thread title is accurate enough haha. Also I've already hit the search button and know where it is so don't panic.
As I said I've picked up another E36, about 3 weeks ago now, and it's a 4 door 328i. It's rust free and solid and it's got 7 months MOT and Tax. It has heated seats and climate control and air-con and all that rubbish so most of that will be leaving shortly, but it's been quite nice for the drive to work while the weather's been poor.
I've put some pics below, and my first question is what are the wheels? My wheel knowledge is usually plenty strong, but I'm lacking it with the BMW stuff. I thought they were E39 M5's when I glanced at it on the guys drive, but I looked at them when I got home and they're 17". They're staggered, and from the tyre size and fitment I assume they're 7.5 and 8.5, and I'm also guessing they're originally from a 5 series as the offset up front is way too lairy to be factory really.
I didn't pay much attention when I went to get it, I just drove it and it was sound so I gave the guy the £500 he was asking and figured that if it was straight I'd keep it nice and use it on the road and if it wasn't then I'd kill it on a track somewhere over the next year
Secondly, I've picked up a 3.15 ratio diff... is this really going to make that much of a difference? I'll have it on in an hour so it'll be going on the car regardless, but I've heard it makes a big difference and the ratio doesn't sound massively different just going by the numbers, so if anyone could enlighten me that'd be cool.
So here it is anyway
Anyway, any help would be much appreciated and apologies for the rambling first post. Oh and Hello!
