Hi everyone. I've just paid a deposit on an 02 reg M3 coupe in gunmetal grey with black interior. I'm going to pay the rest of the cash and pick it up later in the week. Just thought I'd say hi and ask some advice on two little issues:

    1. in a couple of places the felt-like trim around the door seals (not the weatherproof seals themselves) is coming loose and sagging. What is the best way to fix? Some instant grab glue?

    2. The paint on the interior door handles and the grab handles in the rear could do with a refurb as it's bubbling/peeling a bit. Is there a guide on removing these anywhere? I've seen a few cars with this issue so I hope there's a how to.

Other than that; the car is on less than 60k miles, has a few little scratches but nothing that's bent the bodywork and the previous owner was a really nice guy so I'm hoping it's as mechanically sound as it appears (touch wood)

    Looking forward to ownership.

Hi Mike, congratulations on the purchase you won't regret it.

Regarding you issues with the seals, I believe this is a common E46 problem and can be easily fixed with adhesive. If you are buying the car from a dealer I woulg get them to fix it.

Regarding the interior handle trims, unfortunately you can only by whole sets and they aren't cheap at between £200 and £600 depending on what you want. Best bet may be to look for a 2nd hand set on ebay.

Will handles from any E46 fit or are they specific to the m3?

I was thinking about getting some second hand ones and refurbing them with plastidip rubber spray or similar. Had good results on centre consoles before.

Oh and it's a private sale.

As long as the donor car is a coupe you should be ok. If your car is an SMG you will have a problem with the gear surround trim,

I would have thought one of the impact adhesives where you coat both pieces and let it touch dry before pressing together
