I thought I would join up on here as I've eventually found a car that I'll maybe hold onto for longer than a few weeks.
I've bought a silver '98 E36 318i SE from a mate about 3 weeks ago. Don't usually buy from friends but it's had £300 spent on tyres and £200 on the exhaust in the past few months. I don't know much about the mechanicals of a car, but I think it's the M43 engine? It's got 136k miles, looks completely standard, and has a stainless exhaust on it. The exhaust isn't really to my taste but it's actually quite quiet when driven properly and it looks standard with just a single twin tailpipe.
As you'll know it isn't the fastest car in the world, but I'm getting over 50 miles to a tenner which isn't too bad considering today's prices at the pumps and the fact the car could do with a service soon! I've had 18 cars in 30 months if I take out the time a guy in a funny wig put me off the road!
I'll be hanging onto this for at least a year I hope. I managed to get a discount of about 40% on insurance from my renewal coming up due to their error, so I know if make the slightest change they'll be reaching for the wee cornflake if you know what I mean. Long story short, was quoted for my old Focus and was told it was the BM, bought the car and phoned up to hear the bad news, told them I worked in insurance and threatened them with the FSA, they honoured the quote, eventually. Makes a hell of a difference being under 25 with a ban on my record!
Anyways, you might find I can go on a bit at times and tell some bad jokes but I'm not that much of a pain in the arse!
While I'm here, my front offside shock absorber is on it's way out and I'd be aswell replacing the springs at the same time. Am I better just replacing them with standard parts, or spending a wee bit more? I'm not looking to drop the height but if it wouldn't cost much why not? I'm not looking to spend mega money on a car that costs a few hundred quid.
I'm a bit of a lurker, but I like a good joke. I'm guessing that I can't be posting anything offensive on here like something the good man Jim Jeffries would say?
