    Hi guys

After owning toyota MR2's for the last 8 years I finally decided it was time to move on and sold the car. After hunting for a few weeks I have now purchased a silver 330ci manual convertible msport. The car has 18" m3 wheels added and also m3 mirrors is on 78k miles with loads of history. Also has heated leather and all the other usual toys. Really impressed with it so far.

I have a couple of questions that I will ask here if you guys think I would be better posting them elsewhere on the forum let me know please.

The first question is my car does not have staggered tyres. I believe it should have and was wondering how neccessary this is??
Secondly when I put the car into reverse I get a 5 second beep from what I assume is the pdc but do not get any further beeps if I get close to anything. I assume this means that the pdc is faulty what is the best way of diagnosing the fault and fixing it.
Thirdly the temp gauge never moves above a quarter is this normal or would that indicate my thermostat may be faulty?

Finally I would like to add an auxillary socket to the stereo and if possible bluetooth. The car is a 2002 model without nav or hk what is the best way of doing this please.

Sorry to bombard you all with questions on my opening thread but thought it would be the easiest way to start with. Will get some pics up once she has had a good bath.

    thanks a lot

    Matt

There are many possibilities for the same tyres all round,

    1. Replica Wheels

    2. Non OEM tyre fitment (Wrong tyres) fitted

    3. Four X M3 front wheels fitted (as M3 rears have wrong offset).

    4. etc.

Have you got details of what wheels and tyres you have fitted?

Only got the car yesterday so haven't had a look at the backs of the wheels to see if they are staggered or not. If they are not is it a problem or is the stagger not as important as it was on my old mr2?
Also how difficult is it to change the thermostat is it a garage job have heard these can be a bugger to bleed.

    cheers

Weclome mate, bet it feels really solid compared to the MR2!

Stat is nice and easy to change, have a look in the technical section. There are How To's for bleeding the system too, really straight forward.
If it aint broke, don't fix it!!!

Yeah completely different to the mr2. I loved that car but time to try something else and so far loving the bmw. Can anyone recommend any local garages to me (Coventry) to check the car over make sure everything is ok with it as I do not know much about them. Or even better any members of the forum who would mind sparing a couple of hours to take a look at her.

    cheers

Very easy to change yourself, just a bit messy when you take the housing off and the residual fluid spills!

    http://tis.spaghetticoder.org/s/view.pl?1/04/35/69

You do not have to drain the complete system but might be a good idea then you know that you have the correct fluid and correct mix for winter.

Also a good time to slip your radiator out and clear the crud that accumulates between the air con rad and the engine rad. Normall completely blocked at bottom 0.5-1.0 cm (Or More!)

Hi Matt, welcome to the forum!

I'm over in Leamington Spa, but i'm spanner ret4rded, so no help there i'm afraid. I had some work done at Auto-Technik in Lutterworth the work they did was good, but i wasn't overly impressed with communication (missed things off my list, ignored some requests completely) - but could have been miscommunication. - They did a thourough (and reasonably priced) "health check" on the car though.

I've also heard a lot of good things about Autotech in Warwick, apparently they don't have diagnostic tools but are supposed to be very good for mechanical work - not tried them myself yet.

Your long beep on the PDC is to indicate that it isn't working. Depending where your sensors are mounted (painted bumper / black rub strip) they can be either easy to pop out and replace or a real ballache. - This is on my list too. lol.

I'll be interested to know if you find out a way to get the Ipod linked up, i'm looking for a way to put an aux port in myself, not sure which headunit you have, but I'm having some real trouble finding a non intrusive (wire cutting) or reasonably priced way to do it myself.

    Best of luck though!

Oh, and GET YOUR PICS OUT FOR THE LADS!

Bit of an update after faffing around trying to tax the car nightmare due to a private plate being on there before. All sorted now.

I noticed when driving in town the needle sits in the middle of the temp gauge and on a run is sitting at just above a quarter. Does this confirm the thermostat is on its way out.

Also the car has the tyre pressure indicator and I can't get the light to stay off even after checking pressures and resetting it. I guess one of the wheel sensors is knackered. Is there a way of disabling the system or has anyone got a rough price on the sensors??

pics will be up after a good clean.

    cheers

    Matt

FB's post suggests, your reversing sensors are all gone.
But some advice, below on how to check them individually. It was given to me yesterday on this forum.
    .................
    Hand brake on.
Ignition to position II. (Engine NOT running)
    Select reverse.
Put your ear to each sensor in turn-you will hear a rapid click if its working, if you hear nothing its dead
