Hi, new to BMW (previous cars were MK5 Golf GT & MK2 Seat Leon FR), now the proud owner of a 2011 E91 318i M Sport Touring.

Wasn't going to buy a new car but it was a choice of a roofbox for the Leon or a new estate car. Saw the car at a good price from a local dealer, test drove it and cancelled the test drive for the Blue-motion Golf a couple of hours later after putting down a deposit.

Had the car a couple of weeks now and although my wife drives it most of the time, I get to play at the weekend! Boring I know but fuel economy doesn't so far appear to be as good as BMW suggest; just over 400 miles on a tank using the suggested gear indicator and auto stop-start (I could get 450 miles out of a 50 litre tank on the Leon with a heavy right foot!)

What are people's thoughts on winter tyres? Its on 18" M Star-spoke alloys with Bridgestone run-flats at the moment, but was thinking on getting some steels with winter tyres as colleagues with admittedly more powerful 335s and M3s say they're impossible to drive with 18s or 19s in the snow (I thought a 318i with much less torque might be alright but the rears are very wide!).

Loads of threads here on winters, if you want loads of views. but i think the summary is that they are better, but purchase decision factors in how much snow in your area and how necessary are your journeys.
