    Hi all,
Quick intro, new to BMW's and obviously this forum.
Appreciate any advise on what to look out for and anything regular servicing I need to undertake (outside of main service) to ensure my new baby continues to drive like a dream!

Car is a 2003 320D Sport Auto, Silver, got everything except sat nav. Full BMW service history which is a big plus! Paid £5550. See Profile picture.

    Comments suggestions etc welcomed.

    All the best.

Welcome to the forum mate do a search for swirl flaps, then when you get your heart out of your mouth get them removed and blanked off ASAP unless they have been removed already

    Very nice car tho

Change the engine breather to a vortex style one if not already done, for some reason BMW never put it is their service schedule and if unchanged will cause turbo failure eventually.

Also BMW never seemed to change the fuel filter so firstly would ignore the BMW service indicator and move to a 10k oil/filter change, I would also get the air and fuel filter changed every 20k instead of BMW's stupid 35k change cycle.

It is all easy DIY stuff or regular stuff for an indy, there is no value in a FBMWSH once a car gets over 5 years old

Guys, thanks for the heads up! Seems quite straightford to resolve the flap issue, removing them seems to be simply a few screws and nuts?

To be completely honest I'm not collecting the car until tuesday, so my main concern now is, how can I tell if the swirl flaps have already failed? (without taking the manifold off in front of the dealer?) what symptoms should I look for? If one of these flaps failed is it immediately noticeable? Or could the flap but have been sucked in with no obvious signs until one day "bang"?

Whilst you are here, what else should I look for as a precaution before handing over the remaining dollars?

    Thanks in advance!
