    Hi all,

New to BMW and the forum. Ive got a history of modified cars and this is my first standard car!

I did have a 330d touring but didnt have it long, I now have a 320d SE 150bhp but came with M sport wheels, bumpers etc which is a bonus.

All I plan on doing is fixing BMWs mistakes, replacing any broken/ old bits, help the engine run better, remap and service it until it gives up life.

I plan on doing a few engine mods before the remap; EGR delete, decat (maybe both), vortex filter to replace loo roll, front mount intercooler and swirl flaps are all ready out. Is there anything else that i would benefit from changing before the map?

Before i do anything i need to get it running properly, so far im not enjoying the car like i should. Maybe you guys can shed some light on some of my problems...

. The car feels down on power, you put your foot flat and there is a huge delay on any power (in all gears) the power seems to go up and down without me touching the pedal?

. There is a ticking noise when driving that gets faster/ louder under load, inside with windows up it comes from behind the steering wheel area, with the windows down it sounds loud and rattles. I have a feeling this could be an injector problem, however the mpg seems okay to my knowledge?

. The clutch feels very juddery and the car makes a horrible loud rattle if your in a slightly higher gear for the speed if that makes sense. For example most cars you can pull away in 2nd gear or even 3rd, this car struggles in 1st! so when driving up to roundabouts i have to stop completely and put it in 1st as if i put it into 2nd it wouldn't have any of it!

. And finally a new one, the boot window that opens separately to the boot opens whenever it fancies!? Even on the M25 in pissing rain and wind which was great fun! is this the button on the key getting stuck? or another common BMW problem? Oh and the rear window heater doesn't work either!

Sorry to bombard with negativity, I just want to get it all sorted and running right so i can actually enjoy it!

    Cheers, Will

    Hi,

Welcome to the forum, can't answer any of the questions about the running of the engine, but I used to have a E46 54 plate 320d Touring. The rear window demister never worked, did a bit of research on it, and the problem is that the circuit rubs off the back of the glass where the glass opens and closes on the rubber seals.

Didn't get too far with a solution, BMW wanted about £600 for a new rear window and you'd have the same problem in 12 months time anyway, then the oil pump started rattling, so I upgraded to an E91.

In regards to the glass opening on it's own, again mine did that, check all the wires where they come through the hinges to see if they've broken etc. Mine fixed itself once I cleaned out all of the connections.

.......and one final thing in regards to the glass, check where the rear wiper goes through the glass, as it's attached to the glass that opens rather than the boot lid, it can cease up. Just open the glass and move the wiper, it should be easy to move, if it's stiff, then you could do to strip it down and clean out all the crap and lubricate it before it ceases up. If that happens it's a sod to get out, mine ceased up and had to drive around for a few months with no rear wiper in the winter. If it does cease up, take the fuse out so you don't hit the switch by accident and over stress the motor.

Thanks for your help, i will have a look when the rain finally stops! I did read the rear heater is another shit design by BMW that commonly breaks.

Its a weird one really, the wiper works fine and i had it on whilst on the m25 and then after an hour or so it randomly popped open meaning the wiper wouldn't work and the interior light was on etc (nice and dangerous there BMW!)

Then this morning, again in the pissing rain, when i unlocked the car the boot glass opened too, so i pushed it shut and got in the car and 2 seconds after it opened again so i got out and shut it and almost instantly it popped again! So fuck it got in and drove to work with it open, and here I am! looking forward to driving home!

Update, had it all apart and after hours of messing about it was the relay under the govebox. Relay out so the window doesn't pop at all but thats fine with me! Cars off to the garage tomorrow to have the noise/ running issue looked at, so fingers crossed.
