Hello everyone. Just been handed down a lovely 318is.

And its everything i hoped for ie, drive, smoothness, everything is build with quality. Coming from a deawoo Lanos. It makes me feel like king kong on the road. Ive been driving it like a baby as my grandad looked after it so well.

Just want to ask, what is a good motorway speed for BMWs?

    Regards

    Rob

Hi Rob and welcome to the forums.

Sounds like a nice hand down

A good motorway speed is how safe you feel so you dont get banned Seriously, the car will cruise happily at 90+leptons but I would say 85 leptons is a safer bet (unless the roads are quiet...)

Its like mph....but not....if you know what I mean

It prevents any speeds over the MPH limit being recommended on Bimmerforums.

Welcome. We were all new to BMW's once!

The 318is is an awesome little car. It is fun to drive and really teaches you how to drive properly. They are also surprisingly quick if you learn how to use the power effectively.

As for motorway cruising the 318is will start to drink a bit of fuel once you start getting over about 85. I have had two 318is's and have covered many many miles at speeds much higher than this without any adverse affects.

Just a couple of months ago we took a couple to the Nurburgring and the cars coped fine crossing Europe at 110-120, got given a damn good thrashing around the track and driven hard back. One of the cars had 215k on the clock!

    Enjoy your new car.

    Welcome to the forum mate

    Great to have you aboard.

318is is a great engine, very reliable and pokey too in my opinion.

Mine had approx 140k on it just before I carried out my transplant

Thank you very much for your warm welcome.

Since ive had my 318 it has changed the way i drive in lots of ways.

I'm not such a madman now. I drive not slowly but respectfully and letting the car do all the work really. I drive around with the radio off because i love listening to the engine. It is such a joy to drive. Ive only driven light and fluffy cars so ive never really had any cars that give any feel back when driving them. But now its quality. With a 10 year old car, I cant wait to get myself
a newer M3 in a few years time.

    Regards

    Rob
