Just thought I'd introduce myself.
At the weekend, I handed over a fair bit of my hard-earned cash for my very first BMW car. The vehicle in question is a 1999 323 Ci Coupe.
To be completely honest, until just recently, BMWs had not been high on my shopping list. But our neighbour swears by them and it began to rub off on me.
Anyhow, last week my current wheels died, leaving me needing a vehicle. It seemed like the ideal opportunity to suggest to the wife that we seek out a Bimmer. To my utter surprise, she agreed!
I had already been doing my homework in the week leading up to this and had about four cars in my sights - which we went to view on Sunday.
The first three were not for me - bodged body repairs or blacked out windows and millions of miles.
Then, with despair setting in, we viewed the last one on the list - a 1999 323 Ci Coupe in Sliver. Full dealer service history and only two former owners, with 116K on the clock. Sitting forlornly at the back of a dealer's lot, it was clearly being overlooked but I had a good feeling about it.
In fact, it wasn't just me - no sooner were the keys in my hand than the wife was snatching them away and jumping in to fire it up - started on the button and sounded as sweet as a nut (no nastiness from the VANOS).
One test drive later and we were both completely smitten. It is, in fact, the first time that I can ever recall my wife saying, "buy it - don't think about it; we have to have it".
Picking it up on Thursday and I can't flippin wait.
Hope I've done the right thing, though. BMW has a reputation for quality, reliability and being able to take big miles - which is just what I'm looking for.
As you can tell by the user name - I'm a real hands on owner - so hope to make use of and participate in the technical sections of the forum.
Roll on Thursday.
