Autos had the swirl flaps, the OP as manual, so no swirl flaps.

is that 100% then? as another mate of mine was advised to remove the swirl flaps on his manual 320d 2004. by an ex bmw technician.
i can't find any information that suggests its auto's only! just engine codes that have the flaps. i copied this from a bmw site
All BMW diesels from 2001-present are potentially affected, generally older manuals arent affected but all automatic models are affected.
i have also read early diesels were autos only, but later ones had swirl flaps whether manual or auto.

The swirl flap was suppose to make idle more smooth when at traffic lights, as most keep them in D.
When I had my 530d I removed the flaps just in time, as one was hanging on and almost came off.

I did research and found only the auto was effected.

I just did a quick google for peace of mind, just to make sure my info was correct and found this.

Mine is / was an Oct. 2003 E60 manual 530d and swallowed 2 flaps. It's in Cooper Cr*ydon at the moment and they are denying all knowledge of any problem with swirl flaps, so that should give you an indication of how much use BMW dealerships are after you've been affected ..

It's always the same, you could drive two cars in there in a fortnight with the flaps gone, and when you turn up with the second one, they'll still claim they have never heard of it before.

If they admit they know it, they'll be paying for everything.
You might need to push for goodwill, and pay something towards it, but hopefully you won't be facing the full bill.

Thanks for the helpful replies so far people. So there are no common things to look out for or easy mods that people to do get the most from theirs?

Sorry to hear about your swirl flaps mate, hope you get it sorted cheaply

Just goes to show all the mixed info on the net, but it's bad losing 1 flap but 2. Don't suppose you have any pic of this do you.

Picked up the car and have drove 250 miles in one day, absolutely love the car, so smooth to drive and looks immense, even though the design is old! I still think it is an amazing looking car in sport form...

Two questions, my car has done 90k, who should I use to remap my car? I want a bit more BHP and torque and better driveabilty if possible

Secondly, what should I do to the car, is there any preventative maintenance? I know all BMW's suffer from cooling system problems, my brother has an E46 330 - we know all about this lol. What else should I be looking at or doing?

As we now no manuals have flaps, so check and make sure they are there, never no some body may have already removed them.
