E36 based questions will go in the 3 series forum you'll find in the different sections.

Headlight changes are pretty easy, you'll need to unclip the indicator by using a screwdriver down the side between the indicator and the headlight.
This clip on the indicator will allow it to be pulled forward and the plug disconnected.

You'll also want to remove the plastic panel above the kidney grilles, undo the screws, and lift at the rear edge.

You should now see all of the headlight screws and adjusters.
The way it works is the larger plastic part is screwed in or out to change the angle, and then a smaller screw inside to attach it to the adjuster.
It is probably best to hold the plastic adjuster, and just undo the screws to keep as much of the original alignment as possible.

There is an adjuster on each side, and 2 or 3 across the top.
Just remove the inner screws and hold the plastic adjusters from turning, and you can pull the headlight forward. The wiring disconnects by giving it a quarter turn and the plug should come off as one.
