    Hi

    Thought I should introduce myself.

    I currently don't have a Beemer, but am about - I hope - to find a good 2002-2004 Coupe E46.
I did a few years back have a fabulous E39 from new, but that's gone, times have changed and I've had an old Honda Civic for 4 years, done me proud.

But now I've got £5k-£8k for a small engined E46 Coupe.

Any suggestions what to go for/what not to buy/what to look for?

    I'm in Yorkshire BTW.

    Cheers all.

    Barry

    Welcome.
5-8K will get you a decent 330 if you look around.

I signed up to an Audi forum site when I was considering an A4.
Never bought one, just went for advice.

    Thanks Wonkydog

But looking for something - sadly - with a bit smaller engine. I do a few miles and economy is important. Maybe diesel, maybe not.

    Hi Bazzman,Welcome to Bimmerforums.co.uk..........

With £5-8 you should be able to get a very very good E46 If you going to get a diesel be aware of swirl flaps and on the earlier ones turbo problems....also have a good look underneath where the subframe joins for tearing...

My 330D does 46 MPG, "driving"
If I ease off a bit and enter "save fuel mode" I can get over 50.

Thank you all, useful stuff, seems to be a theme here, get a 330d!

I was thinking of a 318ci but I guess you guys would think that a tad feeble

I'm open to engines, so thanks again. What else to look for? Rust an issue on say a 2003 car? and where? Or is it just the usual, service history, accident damage, etc..?

I appreciate your help. The next month will see me in a new motor!

The Honda's good, but it's not a real car
Actually, the Honda's been great, but I do miss my Beemer.
