    Hi fiona

welcome to the forum...insurance is a funny one as far as cheap goes...it depends so much on many factors....spec of car...area you live in...stealability of car...number of years no claims bonus...where you keep your car at night etc etc...

be aware of all the xtra on your insurance that you may not need and will bump up your premiums...like legal cover...the number of thousand miles you travel...if you only travel localy you may not need 12000 mile limit perhaps you can get away with 10000 miles.

i personally opt to have no claims bonus protection and a hire car in the case of an accident..but these do add quite abit to my cover costs

I have my insurance with Privilage....which i got through Money supermarket.com.....it was significantly cheaper than its nearest compeitor

i definately reccomend using the price comparison websites...for many you simply put in your reg number and hundreds of quotes pop up in a short space of time...its dead easy...unles you are a ludite and cant or wont use a computer

With my circumstances; 19, male, no ncb (despite not claiming in past 2 years, i was just a named driver before) I found elephant.co.uk fully comp to be the cheapest. Third party etc was more expensive ! Adrian Flux were more expensive for me!

regarding comparison websites, confused.co.uk ftw as they asked about driving experience, which the others (meerkat etc.) didnt.

    Welcome to the Site.

Yeah if you have the time then check every comapre sites you can as well as adrian flux. I found Money Supermarket the best for me, but like people say it's almost different to everyone.

Agree with previous posters that it seems that there is no pattern to who is cheapest ( confused.com worked for our golf ended up with 1st Central, but when I used the same data for my recently acquired 328i cab all the confused quotes were higher via that than phoning around.

Tip for other posters OVER 50's ( sorry doesn't help Fiona as the o/p) is try RIAS.

My 6 years NCB was bumped up to 9 by them and with other discounts I got fully comp NCB protected ( 2 claims in 3 year allowed), for £298pa.

(That was a good £60 or more cheaper than confused's best quotes).

There are some benefits for being a young wrinkly it seems.

Hope you get a good deal Fiona, and welcome to the world of BMW ownership.

i have all three of mine with adrian flux and they have been really good on price for years but like said before review your details when taking out the policy, such as your mileage (all mine on 5k a year) and ask them about a classic policy. sounds daft but my 98' 523 is fully comp with no, no claims (being used on another car) for £300.
