    Hi there, just thought I'd say hello for the first time here.
    I've just become a BMW owner again after a gap of (wait for it) 27 years.

    I've just bought a 99 model E39 523i SE Auto and I'm really impressed with the car, the marque has certainly advanced a great deal since 1983 when at that time I was the proud owner of a 1973 2002Tii in Golf Yellow, a sort of Lime Greeny/Yellow colour if anyone can blow away the mists of time and remember back that far.

    Anyhow my current E39 is in Aspen Silver Metallic and has covered 118k miles but drives as if you can knock a 1 off that figure it's that good. Silky smooth V6, auto box is an absolute gem, loads of equipment and so economical for what the car is means I don't know why I've denied myself this pleasure for that long.

    I'm going through the cleaning and polishing stage as I've only had the car for 5 days but the only thing that needs doing is the removal of 2 or 3 parking dings which is one of my pet hates. A mate of mine has the franchise for a paintless dent removal company in my area and he's coming tomorrow to make my sides as smooth as silk and back to new again.

    I'll let you know how it looks when he's finished but for now I'm off to edit my profile and have a browse around as I'm still a junior on here

    Bye for now and speak to you soon.

    ...yes a 27 year gap, probably down to the fact that I'm not one for paying a lot of money for my cars and whenever I've being changing my car the BMW model that I could have owned has always been that little bit too much money and something else cheaper comes along.
    I've owned 5 Golf GTi's (1 Mk1 and 4 Mk2's) a couple of nice Audi's including a Quattro and 3 Merc's including the 190E 2.5 16V (Cosworth) so I've always kept the German connection and enjoyed my performance cars over the years. I must admit though to a liking of Italian cars and I've owned Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia too and I still have an Alfa GTV.

    Anyhow back to BMW's, this 99 model 523i of mine still feels so tight, it's such a nice drive it makes me wonder what the newer 2-3 year old 3 & 5 Series cars drive like, I'm really impressed and I'm thinking of a few years down the line what my next BMW will be.

    In answer to a few of your questions;

    SlowTech and Amos, I shouldn't have denied myself a BMW for that long.

    Michael, I'm from Sunderland, near the Eye Infirmary in Ashbrooke if you know of it.

    Kevin, you've shamed me, how the hell did I write V6 instead of Straight 6, agree they do sound nice though.

    ....and to the rest of you thanks for the warm and friendly welcome.
