    hi all, new member to the forum, i currently own a FWD mk4 golf, however this is going up for sale very soon and i am looking to buy a bmw 318is for my first bmw + first drift toy so yeahh , thats me, : )

    thanks guys, unfortunately im going for the 1.8 being a young age of 18 its a pain for the insurance therefore can only insure the 1.8

    IIRC they are both the same insurance groups... Just pre 1996 has the M42 engine post 1996 M44 engine... Not much diff

    EDIT* Yes they are both group 13 - I myself have a 318iS and its lovely for my first year to insure it... It was £3,000 for the year... after the 1st year and now into my second year its just over £700 for the year...

    I would always say get a smaller/banger car first mate... insurance is way cheaper... *Just from what I have learned

    ahhh ryte ok, which ones the better engine , m42? or the m44? i believe they both have 140 bhp correct?

    I would believe guys who own the M42 would argue that theres is better and vice versa about the M44... There as good as each other I believe!
