Hi everyone, first post here! I am now the proud owner of a BMW 116i SE. Its my first BMW and I have to say I dont think I would go back to another manufacturer now, I love it! A wee pic:

My only complaint is that the standard head unit is terrible, its the Business CD variant but the sound is truly shocking. My question is that if I were to upgrade the head unit are the speakers of ok quality? I have a 12" Pioneer sub from a previous car, so was thinking if I set up with that to handle the bass, would the standard speakers cope ok with mid and treble? I dont mind changing them, but if I can avoid having to take panels off and change things I'd rather do that! Im just a bit worried about the size of the mids in the factory components, they're tiny! Are there manufacturers that make aftermarket speakers that size?

Also, how do I confirm the exact model of this (E87 etc)

    Thanks!

    Im Claret and Amber actually!

So would a new head unit make a big difference then? Are the standard speakers ok with a better head unit?

awe FFS, how stupid can you get!! aahh only joking as long you;re not blue, or white and black for that matter (!).

No that standard speakers are crap too, friggin crap, pathetic in fact. Well that;s my experience anyway. But an audio guru will be around shortly I'm sure.

I went to several audio shops and no one wanted to touch me or quoted ridciulous prices. If you ever go somewhere to get yours done give me a shout mate, would be very interested to see what they can do if anything....

I had this problem with my last car aswell, trying to get somewhere to fit a set of components! Nowhere seems to want to do these kind of things! I just dont really want to start pulling off panels, as thats when things start to rattle!

Suppose I'll need to get a new head unit either way, so might as well start with that and see how it goes!

How easy is it to run phono's down into the boot then? Is there an easy path under the carpet to take?

    Sorry for all the questions!

awe mate i think you need to open a new thread in the audio sub forum

Your talk of taking up carpets has already scared me off. Too many bad memories doing that to other cars....
