Just thought I'd say hi. Been mooching around the forum for a while. Now I have just picked up a late 2006 530d m sport from a friend. It's got 100k but been serviced every 6 months and is in perfect condition. Very happy with it.

Anyway come from a Scooby background so can't help but start to tinker and will be seeing mike at Motech ASAP :-)

Will put a couple more post into the relevant forums mostly about getting my iPhone 4 to work well with the pro HU I have.

    Any tips always welcome.

    Jon

    Welcome to the forum matey...

First thing you could check is that the car is running at proper temperatures as there is common problems with the thermostats at the mileage of your car.

Use this to see what your running temps are. If it isnt between 89 - 92 degrees then you will need to replace the thermostats.

    Thanks for replies.

Dogsoldier I had a look at the temp an it show 78c. However this was on a light driving 40 min run. Does that sound too low?

    Cheers

Mate it is way too low. It should be running at 89-92 degrees constantly.

The thermostats are not expensive. The EGR thermostat is a 10 min job to change and I paid about £30ish from BMW for a new one. You will know yours is buggered when you take it off and you can blow through the valve without any resistence.

The second one (Engine Themostat) needs a little work to replace and needs the coolant replacing too. Not an expensive part (£35ish from BMW) but tis the fitting that costs. Not had my one done yet but im guessing at a couple of hors labour. I got my part from Eurocarparts......
